Why CAELUM

Human dignity does not end at the atmosphere.

As humanity moves deeper into orbital, lunar, military, commercial, and scientific space environments, the Church must think seriously about the human person beyond Earth. Astronauts, Guardians, engineers, technicians, chaplains, families, and future settlers remain persons created in the image of God—persons in need of prayer, worship, moral formation, pastoral care, and the sacraments.

Core Pillars

Four commitments

Four commitments, each intended to support the Church’s existing structures rather than operate parallel to them.

Sacramental & Pastoral Readiness

The Church should prepare before pastoral necessity becomes an emergency.

Serious study of how Catholic sacramental and pastoral care may accompany people living and serving in orbital, lunar, and other extraterrestrial environments — always in support of the Church’s competent authorities.

Prayer for Spacefaring Communities

Long before policy is written, the Church prays.

Prayer for astronauts, Guardians, military space personnel, engineers, technicians, chaplains, and the families who await their return. Accompaniment is spiritual before it is technical.

Catholic Formation for Technical Vocations

Technical excellence and holiness belong together.

Support for Catholics entering aerospace engineering, astrophysics, cyber and space systems, military science, and national security — so competence and discipleship are never treated as separate callings.

Thought Leadership on Human Dignity Beyond Earth

The moral questions of human life do not stop at the atmosphere.

Careful Catholic reflection on labor, family life, settlement, just war, religious liberty, and human dignity — before urgent circumstances force hurried answers.

Help the Church prepare for the next frontier.

CAELUM is building its founding network of priests, chaplains, canonists, theologians, academics, aerospace and military professionals, engineers, and advisors who take these questions seriously.
