What CAELUM Is
CAELUM—the Christian Apostolate for Evangelization in Lunar and Universal Ministry—is a Catholic apostolate initiative for the spacefaring age.
It fosters prayer, formation, scholarship, professional relationships, and pastoral preparation for Catholics in aviation, aerospace, military space, scientific exploration, and orbital environments — as a supportive association, not an alternative to dioceses, chaplaincies, universities, or religious institutes.
CAELUM’s concern is not space as spectacle. Its concern is the human person: the astronaut, Guardian, aviator, engineer, scientist, chaplain, technician, student, spouse, and future settler who remains created in the image of God wherever human life may extend.
Catholic Identity and Christian Charity
CAELUM is Catholic in its leadership, doctrine, sacramental vision, devotional life, and institutional aspirations. It seeks to operate in fidelity to Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, the Roman Pontiff, and the bishops in communion with him.
Not merely cultural or aesthetic: the work proceeds from the Church’s sacramental life, her understanding of the human person, her moral tradition and missionary mandate, and the conviction that all creation is ordered to the glory of God.
In Christian charity it also welcomes prayer, dialogue, and cooperation with baptized Christians who profess the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed — without erasing genuine differences, and without claiming to represent another church.
The Name CAELUM
From the Latin caelum — “heaven,” “sky,” “the heavens” — and the acronym for the Christian Apostolate for Evangelization in Lunar and Universal Ministry.
It names both the environment CAELUM looks toward and the conviction that motivates the work: the heavens belong to God, bear witness to their Creator, and remain within the scope of the Church’s concern for the human person.

How CAELUM Works
CAELUM is in its foundational stage, and would rather establish one durable program with proper counsel than announce many it cannot sustain. Five principles govern the work.
Listening Before Proposing
Clergy, chaplains, Guardians, astronauts, engineers, scientists, and families should be heard before CAELUM recommends anything.
Study Before Urgency
Theological, canonical, pastoral, ethical, medical, and technical questions examined before necessity forces hurried decisions.
Support Rather Than Substitution
Assist existing Church, chaplaincy, educational, and professional structures rather than duplicate, compete with, or claim their authority.
Credibility Before Scale
Progress measured by the quality, fidelity, and usefulness of the work — not by programs, titles, or announcements.
The Seal
A Catholic mission patch for the spacefaring age: solemn, hopeful, aerospace-informed, and unmistakably Christian.
Christ is central in the Eucharist and guides as the Star of the Eighth Day. The Trinity sends. The Gospels illuminate. Mary and the Apostles crown. The churches witness. The Moon receives the mission.
Under Their Intercession
CAELUM entrusts its mission and the people it seeks to serve to the intercession of Saint Joseph of Cupertino, Our Lady of Loreto, and Saint Michael the Archangel.
Christ, King of the Universe, guide every mission in truth, charity, and peace. Amen.
Founding Leadership
CAELUM was founded by Mateo Portelli, a Catholic layman.

Institutional Status
CAELUM is an independent Catholic apostolate initiative in development. It exercises no ecclesial, sacramental, canonical, military, chaplaincy, or governmental authority, and claims no recognition, endorsement, sponsorship, partnership, or tax-exempt status unless expressly granted and publicly stated.
